Among the important achievements of 2024, I would like to mention that the Unitary Patent System, also known as the European Patent with Unitary Effect, has beeome operational for Romania, starting with 1st of September 2024. The new European patent with unitary effect (“the unitary patent”) offers a simplified way for obtaining patent protection, extended on a wide geographical area, wh ile contributing to the significant reduction of administrative formalities and costs.
Also, 0SIM continued its strategic partneship with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), with the European Patent Office (EPO) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), as well as with the national intellectual property offices, especially with the State Agency on Intellec tual Property (AGEPI) of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, the OSIM specialists were involved in many international cooperation projects and they actively participated in conferences, round tables, workshops and international e vents.
In 2024, OSIM continued to support the industrial property protection by participatin g in specialized fairs and exhibitions, in debates and conferences on subject s relating to the industrial property rights. The purpose of these initiatives wa s of increasing the awareness of the academic and business environment o n the importance of industrial property rights protection and offering useful i nformation on the ways inventors and entrepreneurs can protect their creation s.
