In the period between 11 - 14 December 2007, the Director General of OSIM, eng. Gábor Varga together with the Deputy Director General, eng. Alexandru Cristian Ştrenc, PhD, participated in the debates of the Administration Council of the European Patent Office, as members of this directing body
At the meeting there were examined the activity reports of the President of the European Patent Office and of the President of Administration Council, the problems relating to the European Patent Academy, the acceptance of new members within EPO, international cooperation with other States, human resources policies as well as the budget-finance report of the organization and the budget project for 2008 being dealt with.

The president of the Community Office for the Protection of Plant Varieties (CPVO), Mr. Bart Kiewiet together with the President of the Administration Council of the same institution, Mr. Jože Ileršič met at the headquarters of the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks on 29.11.2007 with the Director General of OSIM, Mr. Gábor Varga and Deputy Director General of OSIM, eng. Alexandru Cristian Ştrenc, PhD, with a view to establishing a future collaboration with the Romanian party.
Mrs. eng. Antonia Ivaşcu, PhD, Executive Director of the State Institute for testing and Registration of Varieties (ISTIS) together with specialists in the Ministry of Agriculture were present at the debates. The discussions were carried on following to the meeting of the high officials, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture, with Mr. Dacian Cioloş, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. Within the session, OSIM had three presentations, namely: the structure and attributions of the institution, general plant variety examination procedures and the institutional relationship with ISTIS, as well as the database comprising plant varieties, having the structure carried out by OSIM, by adapting the patent common soft. It was agreed upon with the management of the Community Office for Plant Variety Protection that Romania should receive assistance for carrying out the proposals made by our country in respect of setting up DUS (distinctness, uniformity, stability) testing authorities recognized at the community level. CPVO agreed to take part with financing and logistic assistance in organizing a seminar in Romania, meant to render the Romanian plant variety breeders (creators) aware of the community and national plant variety protection system. CPVO expressed the desire for the Romanian specialists’ future participation in the meetings with the experts of EU Member States, organized annually at their headquarters in Angers, France.

In the period between 28 - 30 November 2007, Mr. Bart Kiewiet, President of the Community Office for Plant Variety Protection (CPVO)and of Mr. Jože Ileršič, President of the Administration Council of CPVO paid a visit in Bucharest. Thursday morning, on the 29 November, the two high officials participated in the discussions, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, with Mr. Dacian Cioloş. Issues relating to the community system role in protecting the Romanian breeders’ creations, the technical infrastructure of the community system for the protection of plant varieties, consequences of the enlarged community system for the Member States were dealt with. The top management of the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks also took part in the debates. In the afternoon, the technical discussions continued at the headquarters of OSIM, the high officials being welcomed by Mr. Gábor Varga, Director General of OSIM. OSIM specialists, persons designated from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as the management of the State Institute for Testing and Registration of Plant Varieties were present at the discussions.

The State Office for Inventions and Trademarks together with UPOV (International Union for the Protection of New Plant Varieties) organized, in the period between 03 - 06.09.2007, in Sibiu, the 25th session of the UPOV Technical Group for Automation and Computer Programs (TWC).
To this session there took part 26 TWC experts from 14 Members States of the Union, a delegation of UPOV Office led by the Technical Director as well as experts from Romania. The OSIM delegation was led by the Director General, Mr. Gábor Varga.
On the date of 02.09.2007, before the start of the session debates, UPOV Office organized a workshop for the Romanian specialists, for the purpose of training them in respect of the importance of the legal protection for the new plant varieties.
